In general, the corrosion resistance of zirconium in acid is slightly inferior to that of bismuth, and the corrosion resistance in alkali is better than that of cerium zirconium. One advantage is the corrosion resistance of reducing acid, that is, in sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc. The acid has excellent corrosion resistance, which is precisely the deficiency of titanium in corrosion resistance. Zirconium is very resistant to corrosion in most inorganic acids, organic acids, alkaline solutions, salt solutions and certain molten salts. However, it is not resistant to corrosion in a few media such as hydrofluoric acid, ferric chloride, copper chloride, aqua regia, concentrated sulfuric acid, and wet chlorine. It also has corrosion resistance to high temperature and high pressure water, steam and liquid metals.
