Product Description

Overview

YG8 cemented tungsten carbide rods are solid rod-shaped profiles made from cemented carbide powder (primarily WC, with binder phases such as Co and TiC) through processes such as powder preparation, mixing, moulding, sintering, and precision grinding. They offer significantly superior wear resistance and service life compared to traditional rod materials such as high-speed steel and carbon steel, and are frequently used in the manufacturing of cutting tools, drill bits, and milling cutters.

Our company has over twenty years of professional experience in the production and sales of non-ferrous metal products, and we can meet various customised requirements of our customers. We have also obtained ISO9001 quality certification. If you would like to order high-quality metal products at competitive prices, please feel free to contact us.

Cemented Carbide Properties

  • Maintains high hardness and machinability under high-temperature conditions of 800–1000°C, without softening or deformation due to elevated temperatures.
  • Its wear resistance is 10–20 times that of high-speed steel bars and over 50 times that of carbon steel, exhibiting virtually no noticeable wear during machining operations such as cutting and drilling.
  • At ambient temperatures, it exhibits no significant reaction with acids, alkalis, or salts. It remains stable in humid or corrosive environments, exhibiting no signs of rust or oxidation.
  • The bar stock is compatible with high-speed cutting, drilling, and milling processes, which significantly enhances machining efficiency and reduces production time and costs.
  • The high-quality workpieces produced meet the precision machining requirements of sectors including precision machinery, aerospace, and electronic components.

YG8 Cemented Tungsten Carbide Rod Application

1. Cutting Tools

Tungsten Carbide Rod is employed in the manufacture of drill bits, end mills, reamers, turning tools, boring tools, and similar implements. It is capable of machining cast iron, stainless steel, titanium alloys, non-ferrous metals, and non-metallic materials (such as stone and synthetic fibres). It is suitable for high-precision machining applications in mechanical manufacturing, automotive components, geological exploration, and related fields.

2. Moulds and Wear-Resistant Components

YG8 Alloy Rod serves as a mould material for processes including stamping, cold extrusion, and injection moulding, producing electronic lead frames, razor blade stamping dies, and can-making moulds. It also forms wear-resistant parts such as rollers, nozzles, and PCB drilling needles, serving the electronics, packaging, and petrochemical industries.

3. High-end manufacturing sectors

Applications extend to new energy (battery casing moulds), nuclear power (machining high-temperature gas-cooled reactor components), commercial aerospace (carbon/carbon throat liners for rockets), alongside civilian decorative goods production.

4. Other industrial applications

Includes non-ferrous metal processing, mining machinery, textile equipment components, and structural materials (e.g., feed pins, wear parts).

Processing

① High-purity tungsten carbide powder and high-purity cobalt powder are selected, and the materials are mixed strictly according to a weight ratio of WC: Co = 92:8, with a small amount of moulding agent added.

② The prepared WC powder, Co powder, and moulding agent are placed in a ball mill to achieve microscopic uniform mixing of WC and Co, ensuring consistent mechanical properties of the subsequent blanks.

③ A cold isostatic press is used for axial isostatic pressing of the rods. The granulated powder is loaded into a rubber mould and subjected to high-pressure moulding.

④ The degreased green rods are placed in a special vacuum sintering furnace for high-temperature liquid-phase sintering, achieving metallurgical bonding and densification of the powder.

⑤ The green rods undergo rough grinding and fine grinding to achieve precise dimensions and a mirror surface finish, meeting the finished product accuracy requirements.

⑥ The finely ground rods undergo micro-stress straightening to correct minor bending caused by sintering and grinding.

⑦ Non-destructive testing is performed on the finished rods to detect internal defects and ensure that the rods are free from fracture risks during cutting, drilling, and other working conditions.

⑧ After ultrasonic cleaning of the surface, coating treatment (TiN/TiCN), end face polishing, or blackening treatment can be performed according to customer requirements.

⑨ Comprehensive quality inspection, such as dimensional length, surface quality inspection, and mechanical property testing, is conducted to ensure that the finished product quality meets international standards and customer requirements.
