Product Description

Overview

Stellite Ball Bearings are made primarily of Stellite (a cobalt-based alloy) to provide high-hardness, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant bearings. They offer excellent high-temperature performance and fatigue resistance. They can withstand extreme temperatures, corrosive environments, and high mechanical stresses, making them commonly used in high-performance bearings, valve seals, and other components requiring wear resistance. Compared to ordinary steel bearings, they offer longer life and greater reliability, making them widely used in industries such as aviation, energy, petrochemicals, and precision manufacturing.

Cobalt 20 Features

  • Extremely high wear resistance. The alloy's hard phases, such as tungsten carbide (WC) and chromium carbide (Cr₃C₂), directly resist scratching and spalling on the friction surface.
  • Excellent corrosion resistance. Chromium (Cr), typically added to the alloy at 15%-30%, forms a dense passivation film on the surface, making it resistant to various chemicals and requiring less frequent maintenance.
  • Excellent high-temperature stability, strong oxidation resistance, and creep resistance, while maintaining over 80% of its room-temperature strength at temperatures between 500°C and 800°C.
  • Low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent dimensional stability minimize dimensional deformation during temperature fluctuations, ensuring operational precision.

Application

1. Aerospace

Used in the manufacture of turbine engine blades, sealing rings, combustion chamber components and other parts operating in high-temperature, high-stress environments, effectively resisting high-temperature oxidation and thermal fatigue.

2. Petrochemical

Stellite ball bearings are primarily employed in valve sealing surfaces, pump plungers, drilling equipment bushings, agitators and nozzles, withstanding corrosive media (such as acids, alkalis, seawater) and high-pressure erosion conditions.

3. Energy Industry

Employed in turbine blades, boiler pipework, corrosion-resistant gas turbine liners, and radiation-resistant components within nuclear facilities, ensuring long-term stable operation under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.

4. Industrial Manufacturing and Wear-Resistant Components

Manufactured into cutting tools, molds, wear-resistant liners, plungers, and bushings, suitable for industrial equipment subjected to high abrasion and heavy loads.

5. Automotive Industry

Employed in automotive components requiring resistance to high-temperature oxidation and wear, such as exhaust valves and turbocharger components.

6. Mining Operations

Used as main shaft bearings for jaw crushers and cone crushers in mines, as well as grinding mill bearings in ball mills. Their service life is 3-5 times that of standard bearing steel, reducing downtime for maintenance of mining equipment.

Stellite Ball Process

① Cobalt, chromium, tungsten, and other metal raw materials are placed in a vacuum furnace in appropriate proportions and smelted at 1500-1600°C to remove impurities and gases and ensure compositional uniformity.

② The molten alloy is atomized with high-pressure inert gas to produce spherical powder.

③ The pellets are placed in a mold, formed at a pressure of 50-200 MPa, and then sintered at high temperature in a vacuum to densify the powder.

④ Heat treatment (solution treatment or aging treatment) promotes the dispersion and precipitation of nano-carbides and increases hardness.

⑤ After machining, the product is held at 750-800°C for 2 hours to eliminate residual stress and prevent cracking during use.

⑥ After rough and fine machining, dimensional accuracy and surface polishing are performed to improve wear resistance.

⑦ Comprehensive quality inspections are performed, including chemical composition analysis, mechanical property testing, non-destructive testing, and dimensional inspection.
